The Dick Tracy pages after Gould retired I dismiss as non-canon. There are even consistency, logic and continuity problems.

I await within a few months, the latest hardbound reprint of the Gould strips. The series has just touched my period of life, and already one mystery memory has been repaired.(Swimming pool with floors of building in it. Atop was a dead alligator. At the very bottom, under the lst tilted floor was a dead woman. Was part of the long Mr.Crime continuity. ).Other frags were Ms.Egghead killing a gamecock, two incinerated men in a truck. Lightning not only killed them but fused a pile of silver dollars into a huge silver ingot ! Two beekeepers shot in the head. A woman came out to investigate the shooting and saw...?

Chester Gould retired at the end of 1977, and the strip was carried on by imitators. I have not been following it because the Daily News no longer carries it.In fact, their comics section has,for the most part, gone way down hill.

The stories have been rather out in left field, lately. Flattop reincarnated himself in a relative's body, the villain Puttypuss is a shapechanger (can look like any man he wished), Haf-and-Haf is a copy of Two-Face,even to the plastic surgery to make him normal again and its coming undone, and, finally, lapses in continuity (Mumbles growing old and then dying, only to show up later ,young and still up to trouble...)

Wow I had no idea it was still being printed. My only real contact with the comics anymore is a couple of printed paperback collections from the old days.

Well, the complete strip is being reprinted in book form by Bud Plant, which has a website. This replaced their paper catalogs. I consider it canon only up to the end of 1977 when Chester Gould retired. By then, he had gotten creaky in ideas, etc.
