Is coming up with your own method to drawing characters. It's like, making them your own and suddenly it feels like I'm doing boards of my own characters and having them play out in ways unique to me. I constantly struggle with this, ever since I got hired doing board revisions, but as time goes on and I've been watching other artists here in the studio do their thing, I've been inspired time and again to make the characters more and more my own. I may start posting some bot art, obviously nothing from the show because that's a no no, but basically just little doodles in the fashion I enjoy drawing them.

This pointlessly pointy post brought to you by cake frosting.

That's a great way of looking at it. It's something I need to come to terms with myself, ha ha. I've always had trouble bringing myself to draw in other people's styles, but if I want to be a board artist I need to get over it. I'm starting to figure it out!!! Ha ha. Getting to that natural feeling is essential, finding some joy just in drawing and composing and creating motion.

That's one of my favorite parts about boarding too. Everytime someone new starts at the office, I can't wait to check out their work and see how they have handled character so and so.. their style of drawing and new movement and personality that you would never think of.

That'd be cool to see man, alot of places I know are really strict on keeping things on model, which seems a little crazy when you are pumping out hundreds of drawings in a short space of time.

I'm starting to learn the same thing with the comics I'm working on. You DO definitely feel that you are essentially drawing your own characters when you come up with them, rather than "just drawing characters for this company". It puts the fun into it, most definitely.

I just dig that you guys are more expressive with storyboarding since in most cases you're keeping the pure electricity and energy of the sketches, and we all tend to like those more than finished work. Haha.

I totally agree! (and that it's super fun!)
I also like looking at other people's storyboards too.
Seeing ow they interpret something, the camera angles and the acting etc.. esp if it is completely different from how I would approach it. Always fascinating! (and learning!)

Totally. Some of my favorite boards guys here do stuff that I would likely never have tried.

It is interesting to see an artist style sort of seep into a show they are working on. Being a storyboard artist is one of those jobs I think would be sweet to have.

Cant wait to see what you have drawn with your new inspiration
